Menudo artefacto de destrucción masiva que tenemos para hoy, se trata de una explosiva recopilación de lujo que lanzo el sello Sundazed en el año 2009, rescatando grabaciones primitivas efectuadas entre los años 1966 y 1968 por bandas de segunda y tercera división dentro de la escena mod y del circuito de garitos garajeros en los EEUU. Grabaciones que fueron publicadas en su momento por una legendaria discográfica independiente con base en Chicago llamada USA Records, un sello dirigido por Jim Golden que dio vida a otro proyecto paralelo bautizado con el nombre de Destination Records, el filial, un sello que aposto por las bandas de garaje, psicodélia y beat del medio Oeste de los EEUU, una locura.
El titulo de la recopilación es: ‘2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60’s Garage & Psychedelia from USA and Destination Records!’ (Sundazed, 2009), un titulo inspirado en la dirección de correo donde se situaban USA Records y Destination Rcds, ambos sellos estaban situados en una calle céntrica de Chicago llamada ’2131 South Michigan Avenue’. No tengo palabras para clasificar estos 40 tesoros en forma de canciones recuperadas de las oscuras profundidades de las instalaciones de USA Records. Una edición de lujo para
coleccionistas con un valor incalculable, 20 grupazos y 40 misivas de garaje-rock puro, del bueno y con un fuerte aroma añejo. Además, contiene un montón de documentación y fotografías de las bandas, todo cuidado al detalle y con una presentación impecable. Lo puedes encontrar en formato de doble CD, y en un imponente y coloreado formato en triple vinilo.
En ‘2131 South Michigan Avenue: 60’s Garage & Psychedelia from USA and Destination Records!’, nos topamos con algunas versiones, pocas, y con joyitas preciosas que llegaron a ser autenticos hits, también canciones inéditas que nunca se llegaron a publicar hasta hace algunos años. Un montón de bandas imposibles, bandas olvidadas, o bandas conocidas por muy pocos que ahora podemos disfrutar en este milagro de recopilación. 20 jóvenes bandas independientes que estaban influenciadas descaradamente por aquellos sonidos tan característicos y instantáneos que provenían del Reino Unido, en lo que fue un movimiento musical denominado “la invasión británica”.
